Plastic Man #8

Kyle Baker's rubbery humor is on full display in this 2004 DC series, with a cover that splits Plastic Man between two very different versions of himself — a smoothly confident, sunglasses-wearing figure in red on one side, and a hilariously contorted, noodle-limbed reflection on the other, a fairground scene visible in the background. It's a wonderfully self-aware image that captures everything charming about this character: the gap between the cool he projects and the stretchy chaos he actually embodies. With Baker handling every creative role — writing, art, inks, colors, and letters — this is as personal and distinctive a vision as superhero comics gets.
