Ranger Flint Baker and his junior aide Herc return to Terra with a map of a mysterious black planet, only to discover that a shipment of Crystone has vanished under strange circumstances—and their trusted map maker Koorc may not be who he seems. When the Rangers are drawn to the black planet's surface, they uncover a sinister plot by the exiled Leura and her copper-skinned people, who need Crystone to survive and will stop at nothing to secure it. Flint must use his wits and a hidden acid button to turn the tables on his captors in a desperate bid for freedom.
