Pix #2
In "Day Old Doughnuts: A Look Back at the First Time Brady Ate That Doughnut," Pix confronts the painful truth about her father’s absence, only to learn a startling revelation from her mother—her father was no ordinary man, but the king of fairyland, forced to return to his realm during a crisis. Written and illustrated by Gregg Schigiel, with colors by Stephen Mayer and Rachel Polk and letters by John Green, this emotionally charged issue deepens the mystery of Pix’s origins. The cover, also by Schigiel, captures the moment with quiet intensity, as Pix’s friends Regie, Seth, and Cherry arrive to stand by her—ready to plan a rescue for the imprisoned Lorne.

The despondent Pix goes home and tells her mother she accepts that her missing father was just an ordinary man, and that her powers are freakish. But Laura explains that Pix's father was in fact king of fairyland, and that he had to return to his home long ago because of great crises there. Regie, Seth, and Cherry arrive and the friends reconcile. As they do so they begin plotting how to rescue Lorne, now imprisoned and endangered by his own mother and uncle.
