Peter Wheat and Beetle are captured by a pack of fierce rats who have stolen a load of grain and demand to know what to do with their two prisoners. Peter manages to escape by using hollow reeds to breathe underwater, and then devises a plan to retrieve the stolen grain. With Beetle's help, Peter pursues the rats as they flee with the grain in a cart, ultimately recovering it from the thieves.
