Persepolis #1
Marjane Satrapi's celebrated autobiographical graphic novel arrives in this 2007 Ueberreuter German-language edition, subtitled Eine Kindheit im Iran — "A Childhood in Iran." The cover, entirely Satrapi's own work, is immediately arresting: a contemplative figure in profile exhales a curl of smoke that blossoms into a dreamlike vignette of family gatherings, veiled women, and a young girl defiantly wearing a "Punk is Not Dead" shirt, all rendered in Satrapi's distinctive high-contrast black-and-white style with teal accents. It's a beautifully composed visual promise of memory, identity, and resilience told through deeply personal imagery.
