“Exam Cram”

A split-panel gag cover perfectly sets the tone for this May 1972 Archie Series gem from Pep Comics — when Mr. Weatherbee cheerfully names Archie his most "outstanding student," the punchline lands in the right-hand panel, where Jughead and a grinning Archie are caught loitering in the school hallway, very much out standing in it. Cover pencils by Dan DeCarlo and inks by Rudy Lapick bring the whole Riverdale gang together along the top banner — Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and more — framing this classic bit of wordplay humor that made Pep a reliable monthly delight.
