“Contrast”

A ski slope has never looked quite this chaotic — Pep #263 packs the snowy hillside with a crowd of skiers, a traffic light, road signs reading "Dip Ahead," "End Speed Zone," and "Skiers Keep Right," plus a bright red-and-yellow snowmobile, all while one hapless skier collides with a lamppost to a burst of musical notes and a bystander mutters, "Man! Every year these slopes get more and more crowded!" Dan DeCarlo's pencils and Rudy Lapick's inks capture the Archie gang's trademark warm humor with wonderfully busy, crowd-pleasing energy. At 15 cents in 1972, this March issue is a cheerful snapshot of Riverdale's gang hitting the winter slopes — with predictably delightful results.
