“Christmas Past”

The Riverdale gang is in full swing on this January 1972 issue of Pep, with Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica, and the rest of the crew gathered across a lively two-panel cover penciled and inked by Dan DeCarlo. On one side, Archie leans out a window calling to Betty with his trademark over-the-top flattery, while the other scene finds a casually dressed Archie at a desk offering to help Betty with either French or algebra — much to what appears to be Jughead's lurking amusement in the background. It's a warm snapshot of the cheerful, good-natured humor that made Archie comics a staple of early-'70s teen entertainment.
