“The Scrimmage Image”

A winter double-date goes delightfully sideways on this March 1971 cover, with Dan DeCarlo and Rudy Lapick delivering two charming panels: first, Jughead happily devouring a feast at the dinner table while Ethel reminds him of the moonlight snowmobile ride he promised her, and then the payoff — both of them zipping through a snowy moonlit night on separate snowmobiles. Rounding out the cover, the familiar Riverdale gang — Archie, Betty, Veronica, and friends — peer down cheerfully from the masthead. At just 15 cents, this is a warm slice of early-'70s Archie charm with Al Hartley handling the interior story duties alongside letterer Bill Yoshida.
