The fourth issue of Bendis and Gaydos's Pearl presents a quietly unsettling cover: a heavily tattooed figure, shirtless and turned away from us, extends an arm holding a pistol while a ghostly, large-scale face looms in the hazy green background. The intricate tattoo work cascading across the figure's back is rendered with real care by Michael Gaydos, making the image feel as much like body art as sequential art. This DC/Jinxworld series was already earning perfect scores from multiple outlets by issue four, and a cover this atmospheric makes it easy to see why.
