Somewhere, in the Congo, the Panther presides over two native chieftains who are airing their grievances to him. Suddenly, they are interrupted by the sound of a woman's voice nearby, arguing with one of his tribesmen. She is Barbara Wentworth, a wealthy Englishwoman who has ventured alone into the jungle specifically in search of the Panther. Her hope is that he will aid her in traveling to South America to search for her missing brother, Dudley. Initially he rebuffs her, but then has a change of heart, and he agrees to accompany her to the Amazon in their quest to find her missing brother.
