Paper Girls #8
Paper Girls keeps its unsettling momentum going with issue #8, and Cliff Chiang's cover makes an immediate impression: one of the paper girls faces off — or perhaps recoils from — a skeletal, bandage-wrapped figure looming over her with a raised hand, the whole scene rendered in a striking teal monochrome accented by the series' signature pink logo. The tension between the girl's vulnerability and the skull-faced figure's eerie grin is quietly chilling without resorting to cheap horror theatrics. Brian K. Vaughan's "Only Time Is Timeless" promises more of the genre-bending strangeness that has made this Image series one of 2016's most talked-about reads.
