"Trouble in Dark Canyon" follows a woman named Lottie who arranges to sell the Bella Union, a saloon she has owned for years, to a man named Tom. When Sam arrives seeking to buy the establishment, he learns it has already been sold; Lottie explains she needed the money and hopes Tom will give her a job. Later, as Sam departs, a group of outlaws plots to make trouble for him in Dark Canyon, with a woman on horseback meeting with a gang member to set their scheme in motion. The story culminates in a violent confrontation in Dark Canyon where the outlaws attempt to ambush Sam and his companions, but Sam and his allies manage to overcome their attackers.
