Our Gang Comics #5 (May–June 1943) is a cheerful Dell anthology packed with kid-friendly fun, featuring characters called out right on the cover: Our Gang, Barney Bear, Tom and Jerry, Benny Burro, Flip and Dip, and Pete Smith. Walt Kelly's cover art puts the lovable Barney Bear front and center, seated on a box with a tiny mouse perched on his raised paw — apparently giving him a manicure with a nail file — while five familiar Our Gang kids line the left side in a bright portrait strip. At just a dime, this 1943 issue showcases Kelly's warmly expressive cartooning style alongside the story "Fire Fighters," making it a genuinely delightful snapshot of Golden Age all-ages comics at their most playful.
