From the cover by Joe Kubert, two U.S. Marines — a leaping rifleman in full combat gear and a wide-eyed sergeant in the foreground — are caught dead in the path of an incoming land torpedo, its red warhead filling the lower right corner with terrifying immediacy. The dialogue says it all: "Duck! — They're firin' land torpedoes at us!" and "They must think we're the whole Marine Corps!" — a punchy setup for the Gunner and Sarge feature headlined as "Devil Dog Patrol!" Robert Kanigher writes and Jack Abel illustrates the interior story, making this November 1964 issue a solid slice of DC's gritty, globe-trotting war comics at their most visceral.
