Jerry Grandenetti's cover art captures a grimly determined soldier firing a submachine gun from behind a burning log, with flames and smoke filling the foreground while enemy forces press in from the background. It's a tense, visceral snapshot of "Backs to the Sea!" that showcases exactly the kind of pressure-cooker storytelling Robert Kanigher brought to DC's war books in the early 1960s.
