A grim-faced U.S. Marine — USMC helmet and all — crawls low to the ground with his rifle aimed straight at the reader, spent shell casings and spike-shaped obstacles scattered around him and a grenade resting nearby, smoke curling into the dark sky behind him. It's a tense, up-close composition from Joe Kubert that puts you right in the dirt alongside him. "The Silent Ones!" promises the kind of hard-edged war storytelling that made DC's 1958 military anthologies so compelling, with Robert Kanigher's writing and Kubert's raw linework making this a worthy addition to any war comics collection.
