Ordinary Gods #2 from Image Comics drops its modern-day protagonist — a young man in a hoodie and jeans — into what looks like a warzone out of time, with a mounted soldier looming from the rubble-strewn chaos behind him and a loyal collie-type dog at his side. The contrast between his everyday clothes and the grim, muted battlefield surrounding him captures the series' central tension with real visual punch. Writer Kyle Higgins and artist Felipe Watanabe, with colors by Frank William, make "Chapter II: Black Light" look like exactly the kind of mythic collision you'd want to keep reading.
