“Chapter Six”

Part six of Marvel's ten-issue limited series from novelist Jonathan Lethem and artist Farel Dalrymple, and the cover makes a strong case for why this collaboration earned so much attention in 2008. Dalrymple's linework pulls you right into a tense workshop scene — a wide-eyed man hunched over a cluttered workbench, his mechanical arm among a tangle of complex machinery and wiring, while a suited adult and a young person in glasses observe from behind. The magnifying lens mounted near the central figure's face adds an unsettling, almost surgical quality to the whole composition, hinting at the series' blend of science-fiction unease and deeply human storytelling.
