Omega: The Unknown #3
Issue three of this acclaimed 2008 Marvel limited series finds the celebrated novelist Jonathan Lethem and artist Farel Dalrymple continuing their deeply strange, thoughtful reimagining of the cult character. Dalrymple's cover presents a striking, vertiginous scene: a figure in dark clothing lies fallen in the foreground, their chest emblazoned with the Omega symbol, while a robotic or mechanized figure tumbles through the air above amid crackling energy — all of it framed by the looming metallic legs of something enormous on either side. It's an arresting, off-kilter composition that captures the series' signature blend of vulnerability and cosmic weirdness, making this one of the more visually inventive superhero books of its era.
