Nyoka the Jungle Girl #9

Nyoka Gordon arrives in a city celebrating her as Queen of the Mardi Gras, but her joy is cut short when a gang of thieves, disguised as parade-goers, launches a robbery during the festivities. As chaos erupts, Nyoka finds herself stranded high above the city after a balloon carrying the zebrafant is caught in a sudden updraft, leaving her clinging to a rope with no way down.

Nyoka and Trader Tom are interrupted by a phone call from Johnson, who wants a loan. Trader Tom repeatedly insists "No!"—until he accidentally says "Yes" when Johnson asks if he can hear him, leaving both Nyoka and the reader surprised.

In the Flying Jungle, Part II: Treacherous Skies, Nyoka and a gang of criminals are caught in a precarious balloon ride after a failed heist, with the balloon slowly deflating and the criminals trying to escape by helicopter. As the balloon plummets, Nyoka uses quick thinking and daring moves to survive the fall, narrowly avoiding bullets and a collapsing gas bag, while the gang believes she’s fallen to her doom.

Witless Witmore boasts of his exceptional memory after winning a medal in a memory contest, prompting Nyoka to test his knowledge with a quiz on random facts. As he struggles to recall answers, the humor unfolds through his flustered reactions to questions about muscles, candy consumption, and nursery rhymes.

Nyoka, on a bear-hunting expedition in the Burmese jungles, encounters a man in a tuxedo fleeing from a furious pursuer. As she follows bear tracks, she discovers the man—Tu Sen—has been evading a debt collector who demands a valuable object he once purchased, setting off a chain of tense escapes and jungle dangers.

Nyoka tracks Tu Sen into the Burmese jungle after he refuses to hand over a valuable object, only to be trapped by a bear. As she struggles, Kai Chung arrives, drawn by her cries, and saves her with a swift stroke of his ancient sword—only to reveal his true intent: he’s hunting Tu Sen for his head, and Nyoka must now protect him from a far more dangerous foe.

Nyoka encounters a peculiar vendor selling unusually strong and colorful socks, which she buys after a skeptical exchange. Later, she finds herself in a jungle village where the friendly locals seem to have a strange, unsettling way of welcoming guests.

In the third part of the Burmese Expedition, Nyoka teams up with Kai Chung to track down the runaway Tu Sen, unaware that Kai Chung is a headhunter hunting him for a prize. As she tries to stop Kai Chung from beheading Tu Sen, Nyoka uses her jungle instincts and clever tricks—like riding a stampeding elephant and imitating a leopard’s cry—to stay one step ahead, all while racing to save Tu Sen before it’s too late.
