Nyoka Gordon, the Jungle Girl, takes shelter at a remote ranch during a sudden storm, only to be greeted by Colonel Jee-Raff Jed and his eccentric crew—especially the trigger-happy Doc, who mistakes her for a dangerous outlaw. When a mysterious figure known only as the Black Bullet begins threatening the ranch with cryptic warnings and deadly attacks, Nyoka finds herself drawn into a web of danger and deception, where every shadow could hide a killer.

Nyoka Ryder, a young woman with a flair for dramatics, proudly presents her newly written play to producer John Brass, only to be shocked when he reveals he has no interest in staging it—instead planning to use the script for a snow scene. In a separate, humorous subplot, a man claiming to have managed a bath house for fifteen years (without ever taking a bath) seeks work in exchange for a meal, only to be met with suspicion.

Jee-Raff Jed and Nyoka race to stop the Black Bullet after rustlers steal nearly all the ranch’s giraffes, leading to a high-stakes chase through the jungle where Nyoka outwits the villain in a daring final confrontation. Though the Black Bullet escapes at first, a sudden stampede of giraffes throws the chase into chaos, leaving both heroes and the outlaw in peril.

Nyoka answers a late-night phone call from a man who can’t sleep, prompting her to improvise a lullaby — but the moment she starts singing, a comically exaggerated, off-key tune begins to play, drawing laughter from the reader. The story takes a playful turn as the phone call spirals into a humorous exchange, blending absurdity with a whimsical tone.

Nyoka visits a market stall where she challenges a trader over a loaf of bread that claims to weigh a pound but only comes in at twelve ounces. When she confronts him, the trader claims his new yeast makes the bread so light it naturally weighs less—prompting her to investigate further, only to discover the judge is busy eating and not to be disturbed.
