Nutsy Squirrel #65

Rube Grossman's cover for this May–June 1955 DC funny-animal title sets up a perfectly timed restaurant gag: Nutsy Squirrel sits at a table overflowing with open oysters — each one gleaming with a pearl — and demands to see the manager about all these "little white marbles" turning up in his meal. The flustered pig waiter, towel over his arm and eyes wide, looks absolutely scandalized by the complaint. It's the kind of warm, silly humor that made Nutsy Squirrel a charming corner of the DC lineup.
