Northlanders #35
Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan's Viking-age Vertigo series opens a haunting two-part story with one of its most arresting images: a young woman frozen beneath a pale, snow-white surface, her hands pressed upward as though reaching for the world above, while a lone axe rests on the ice in the foreground. Massimo Carnevale's cover work is quietly devastating — the muted, almost watercolor stillness of the scene makes that outstretched figure all the more striking. If you've been following Northlanders, "The Girl in the Ice" promises exactly the kind of stark, melancholy storytelling this series does so well.
