About this Collection

This graphic novel adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Northanger Abbey is part of Marvel's line of literary adaptations. It brings the story of young Catherine Morland's adventures in Bath and her imaginative Gothic fantasies to life in a comic format.

In this 2012 Marvel adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic, Catherine Morland steps into the gilded world of Bath, where society’s rules and romantic intrigue swirl around her like a well-tuned waltz. With the keen eye of writer Nancy Butler and the expressive art of Janet K. Lee, Catherine’s journey through friendship, flirtation, and quiet self-discovery unfolds with wit and warmth. The cover by Julian Totino Tedesco captures the era’s elegance, perfectly framing a story that’s as much about growing up as it is about falling in love.

Catherine Morland takes the pleasant opportunity to travel to Bath as companion to her wealthy neighbor, Mrs. Allen. She is captivated by this introduction to society and meets Isabella Thorpe, who shares many of her interests, and Isabella's brother John, who is a friend of her own brother James. However, it is the charming (but elusive) clergyman Mr. Tilney who intrigues Catherine the most.
