“Melting Fire with Ice”

This fourth and final chapter of Nomad's 1991 limited series closes things out with real visual punch — cover artists James Fry and Mark McKenna put a determined, long-haired Nomad front and center, armed and ready, with a masked infant tucked alongside him and the imposing face of guest-star Captain America looming large in the background. A pair of targeting reticles at the bottom hint at the danger surrounding both hero and child, underscoring the high stakes of "Melting Fire with Ice." It's a strong, confidently composed send-off to a mini-series that gave one of Marvel's underdog heroes his moment in the spotlight.
