New Mutants Forever #2
The second chapter of this five-part limited series brings a wonderfully unnerving presence to its cover: a sleek, articulated mechanical figure with glowing eyes, a wild spray of dark spines erupting from its head, and a grinning metallic face lunges forward against a warm burst of radiating pink and orange light. Art Adams renders the machine with remarkable detail — every joint and panel of its dark armored body catching the light — giving the whole image an eerie, almost playful menace. Chris Claremont, Al Rio, and Bob McLeod continue the story inside, making this 2010 installment a compelling piece of the New Mutants Forever puzzle.

Sunspot and Warlock are vacationing in Brazil when Bobby's mother is attacked by mysterious soldiers. Nina tells her son that there is trouble in Nova Roma and gives him a teleportation ring to take him there. Sunspot and Warlock arrive just as Selene, Sam and Illyana are emerging from a stepping disc. They enter the city to find that Magma and Doug have fallen under the influence of the Red Skull and now fight for his cause. To make matters worse, Doug has been given an injection that has transformed him into the Skull's image.
