Five young mutants with eerily glowing eyes stare upward, their faces filling the frame in an unsettling close arrangement — one pale-haired figure, one with distinctive visor-like eyewear, and three others whose burning red and white irises hint at powers straining at the surface. Above them looms an intricate cosmic or mechanical structure bathed in deep blues and golds, lending the whole image a dreamlike, almost hypnotic unease. Martin Simmonds's cover art is genuinely striking, and with Vita Ayala writing and Rod Reis on full art duties, this 2022 installment of New Mutants carries a quiet intensity that's hard to look away from.
