Steve Gerber's offbeat Vertigo series reaches its fifth chapter with a cover by Phil Winslade that plunges Nevada into a lush, shadow-draped jungle setting — she stands confidently on a gnarled tree root, wearing a pith helmet and minimal warrior-style attire, gripping a staff while a large cat crouches at her side. Looming behind her in the dense foliage are a number of imposing tiki-like idol figures, giving the whole scene an air of pulpy, surreal adventure. With inks also by Winslade, the painterly detail is rich and atmospheric — a fitting visual for a Vertigo series titled "Existence Is Futile.
