“Dark Nativity”

Subtitled "Dark Nativity," this January 1991 issue of Namor, the Sub-Mariner opens with a striking cover by John Byrne showing Marvel's First and Mightiest Mutant lunging powerfully while gripping a coiled mechanical device, as smaller figures — including what appears to be a figure in red and a bandage-wrapped form — look on from below. Byrne handles the full creative package here, from writing and art to lettering, with colors by Glynis Oliver lending the scene its moody, tense atmosphere. A fine entry in this early-'90s solo series for the Prince of Atlantis.
