“The Fire Down Below Part One”

The cover by Phil Noto delivers a striking visual contrast: a towering, blue-skinned figure in golden armor looms with fists raised overhead, while a smaller Namor — wearing his iconic X-Men trunks — stands defiantly below with hands pressed together, looking determined against impossible odds. "The Fire Down Below Part One" kicks off a new chapter for the Sub-Mariner, with Stuart Moore writing alongside artists Carlos Rodríguez and Sergio Ariño bringing the interior pages to life. If this confrontation of scale is any indication, Namor's 2011 is about to get considerably more complicated.

Namor restores the Running of the Beasts, an ancient Atlantean tradition. The festivities are disrupted, however, when something causes the sea monsters to become unruly. Krang, who is fomenting a revolution, is suspected. Abiri’s potential for logomancy manifests while subduing one of the beasts, and again later when a mysterious stranger appears to her, triggering a dark vision of the future for New Atlantis and Utopia. Krang’s men, led by Selach, assassinate the royal logomancer.
