☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains multiple stories investigating the unexplained. The cover story depicts scientists and explorers confronting a sea monster, with one character dismissing the encounter as a publicity stunt. "It's a Small World" tells of a man who creates an intricate miniature world complete with model soldiers and tiny towns, only to discover his creation has become unnervingly real. "Three Thoughts" presents a narrative framed by Dr. John Boyle, who works with the Saxon Foundation investigating the supernatural and paranormal, describing an investigation into alleged telepathic communication between two brothers in Paris. The final visible story features a character named Felix encountering a sea creature and clashing with photographers over proof of the monster's existence.
Fred Cary, a man sympathetic to communist ideals, is mysteriously transported from his own world to a parallel dimension where communist control has become absolute and totalitarian. Trapped in this dystopian realm and facing interrogation, he meets Corveray, a scientist who explains the phenomenon of parallel worlds existing in different dimensions of time. Now Cary must find his way back to the gap in time that brought him here—if it still exists—before the authorities catch him again.
Donald Smith retreats into his workshop to lose himself in meticulously crafted Civil War models—a refuge from his nagging wife, frustrated son, and the anxieties of modern life. His dreams of the battlefield blur the line between his miniature world and reality, until a fateful night when a disturbing nightmare and the family cat collide in ways that leave him questioning what actually happened. A fascinating tale about a man who finds escape in imagination, only to discover the boundary between his small world and the real one isn't as clear as he thought.
A movie studio's publicity man borrows a sea-creature costume for an outrageous stunt to promote a film about undersea civilizations, but his escalating hoaxes backfire when a real monster—one that couldn't possibly be Felix Catte in disguise—emerges from the ocean. As the line between Felix's manufactured terror and genuine danger blurs, a young scientist who warned against exploiting the legend must find a way to expose the truth before panic consumes the beaches.
