My Own Romance #33
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeA lily-pad lagoon sets the scene for this dreamy August 1953 Atlas romance issue, as a dashingly dressed young man leans toward a wide-eyed blonde woman reclining in a rowboat, their shared gaze electric with feeling. Al Hartley's cover art captures that tender, breathless moment perfectly, teasing the featured story "I Love You, Laura!" — billed right on the cover as "the sweetest tale ever told!" Inside, Alice Kirkpatrick brings her own romantic storytelling to "The Man I Married!," making this a full package of mid-century heartstring-pulling for just a dime.

Beautiful model Laura is pursued by many men, but she’s waiting for “a man with wealth, position, great ability and popularity! Handsome as I am beautiful!” She falls in love with actor John Thane and they wed, but he turns out to be as self-centered as Laura: “You must realize how lucky you are to be married to such as handsome man as I! Please don’t imagine you own me!” Laura, who really loves John, realises she will never have “happiness and love” with her selfish husband.
