“Nothing Seems to Work, Including Mutt!”

The tall, lanky Mutt is reclined helplessly in a barber's chair — striped legs flailing in the air — while the short, stout Jeff wields scissors and comb with the focused intensity of a man who may be in slightly over his head. Al Smith's bright, expressive linework pops wonderfully against that bold red background, capturing the duo's signature comedy of mismatched misadventure. Harvey Comics' long-running series created by Bud Fisher remains a cheerful treat in 1960, and this cover alone promises plenty of good-natured chaos inside.
