A massive stone lion — snarling, fangs bared, eyes gleaming a fierce red against a smoldering crimson sky — commands the entire cover of this 2007 Dutch-language entry in Jean Dufaux and Philippe Delaby's Murena series. The title "Het bloed van de beesten" ("The Blood of the Beasts") is perfectly announced by that imposing sculptural predator, rendered with brooding intensity by Delaby's cover art. It's a striking visual promise from one of Franco-Belgian comics' most atmospheric historical series.
