“Something Dark Is Coming”

Ms. Marvel charges straight at the viewer in Greg Horn's striking cover for issue #12, her black-and-gold costume and windswept hair conveying raw momentum as fighter jets and aircraft carriers fill the turbulent sky and sea behind her. A missile streaks past in the foreground, amplifying the sense of high-stakes aerial conflict surrounding her. With Brian Reed writing and Roberto de la Torre and Patrick Zircher on interior art, this 2007 issue promises plenty of action to match its ominous story title, "Something Dark Is Coming.

Ms. Marvel finds herself up against, not only Doomsday Man, but also the highly contagious Targoth zombies. She is infected by the Targoth during the battle but a mysterious internal force heals her. Arana lends a hand but has the carapace over her face ripped off by Doomsday Man. This tips Ms. Marvel over the edge and she makes quick work of her old enemy. As Arana recovers in the hospital, her father forbids Carol from having any further contact with his daughter.
