Vertigo's Motherlands #4 charges forward with a cover by Kim Jung Gi that puts two figures in sharp contrast — a gritty, goggled woman in a burgundy jacket riding atop a hulking mechanical vehicle, while a blond figure in matching pink-mauve gear walks away with clenched fists and their back turned. The stark white background makes that tension between them feel all the more loaded, and the tagline "Reject Your Elders" hanging in the corner does nothing to ease it. Si Spurrier's script, brought to life by Rachael Stott, Pete Woods, and colorist Felipe Sobreiro, makes this 2018 multidimensional series one of Vertigo's sharper, more stylishly assembled reads.
