“Candles”

Subtitled "a fairy tale for grown-ups," Moonshadow #8 from Epic/Marvel captures the series' dreamlike tone beautifully in Jon J. Muth's painterly cover: a wide-eyed young figure with hands clasped in prayer gazes out from the foreground, while a vast, shadowy presence looms behind him amid crackling lightning and a star-filled sky. Above, a small inset panel shows a dark arrowhead shape streaking toward a warm, glowing sphere — delicate and cosmic all at once. With J. M. DeMatteis writing and Muth handling every visual element, this 1986 chapter titled "Candles" promises the same blend of wonder and melancholy that earned the series its reputation — Denny O'Neil's cover quote says it well: "Full of wisdom, wit, and reverence for life.
