“Scarlet in Moonlight”

Against a stark crimson background, this 1982 issue presents a striking tableau: a white-caped Moon Knight crouches over a fallen figure while an elegant woman in a red dress stands poised above them, crossbow drawn and aimed with cool, deliberate menace. Bill Sienkiewicz's cover work is gorgeous — the stained-glass medallion framing the scene adds an almost painterly, gothic atmosphere that sets the tone perfectly for a story titled "Scarlet in Moonlight." Doug Moench and Sienkiewicz were doing some of their most arresting work together on this series, and this cover makes a compelling case for diving right in.
