Monte Hale Western #80

"Blood of the Renegade" follows Monte Hale as settlers in a remote valley are attacked by Cheyenne warriors led by Cheyenne Jack, forcing Monte and his allies to defend the quarry and seek reinforcement from Fort Daniels. Meanwhile, Gabby invents a bulletproof vest and rides to the territorial capital to demonstrate it to the sheriff, encountering obstacles including a mysterious opponent along the way. In the backup story "Jawbone Jeffers in The Mountain Mover," Jawbone Jeffers boasts of his abilities to Sheriff Slim Pine but is outshadowed by the more successful exploits of Jack Rabbit, a rival who operates as a "mountain mover," ultimately leaving Jawbone frustrated and out of reach.
