Alice runs away from home, where her widowed father forces her to work ceaselessly on the farm, and her suitor Hank also anticipates a free servant if they wed. Alice arrives in Chicago but her lack of work experience forces her to take sleazy Marty’s offer of a job as a B-girl in his club. Alice falls for trucker Rex, but flees when he mentions “children,” thinking he’s a married man. Working as a waitress, she’s surprised when Marty tracks her down: he says Rex is a widower, and arranges for Alice and Rex to reunite.
