Mister Miracle's in a bad way on the cover of this February 1991 JLI tie-in — Scott Free slumps unconscious in his yellow-and-red costume while a hulking, grotesque brute lunges toward him from above, flanked by a snarling beast-creature and the looming silhouette of Darkseid amid fiery explosions, all rendered with unsettling energy by cover penciler Joe Phillips and inker Bob Dvorak. A framed photo of Blue Beetle tucked in the corner adds a quietly charming touch to an otherwise ominous scene, and that single word splashed across the bottom — "NIGHTMARE!" — says everything about the threat closing in. With Moench, Hooper, and Dvorak handling the interior, this late run issue delivers a genuinely creepy premise right from its striking cover.
