A handsome 1981 West German edition from Volksverlag, this album collects Jean-Michel Charlier and Jean Giraud's evocative story bearing the name of America's great river. Giraud handles both pencils and inks on the cover, bringing his characteristically fluid linework to the presentation, while Isabelle Beaumenay-Joannet's colors and Marianne Nuß's lettering round out a polished creative team. A fine example of the Franco-Belgian tradition finding enthusiastic readership in the German-speaking market at 19,80 DEM.

Juni 1859. Jim Cutlass rettet auf einer Mississippifahrt einen Schwarzen vor dem Tode und wird als Negerfreund verhaftet. Er kann nach New Orleans entkommen wo er zusammen mit seiner ihm bislang unbekannten Cousine Carolyn die Erbschaft der Baumwollplantage Cyprus Lodge anzutreten gedenkt. Nachdem er in Notwehr einen Mann erschießt muß er erneut fliehen. Erst nach Ende des Bürgerkriegs, in dem er als Hauptmann für die Nordstaaten gekämpft hatte, kehrt er zurück und findet Cyprus Lodge in einem desolaten Zustand vor.
