When a shaman witnesses his greed, he invokes a curse that promises death by ivory—a fate that may be closer than Noonan thinks. Penciled and inked by Bill Ely, this 1959 tale unfolds with eerie tension, while Joe Kubert's cover captures the story's ominous tone.
In "The Secret of Odin's Cup," Jon and the Mute Bard uncover an ancient legend etched in a hidden cave, setting Jon on a perilous quest to rescue a captive maid and claim the fabled cup said to grant power over all enemies. Facing Wotan, the Guardian of the Underworld, Jon battles monstrous tide waves, living statues, and shadowy warriors in a descent through a realm of myth and danger. The journey leads to a climactic trial beneath the earth, where courage and resolve are tested before the cup is claimed and the surface world is reclaimed.
In "The Wizard of Time: Chapter I," the Challengers are called in when a group of men in ancient Greek garb attempt to steal a plane, only to be captured. The prisoner claims he’s searching for the "Island of the Wizard," leading the team on a journey to a hidden isle where they encounter the reclusive scientist Darius Tiko, whose experiments with time travel have drawn both danger and intrigue. When Tiko vanishes into a time cube, the Challengers and the captured soldier follow, plunging into a mystery that stretches across moments both past and future.
In *The Men Who Rode Across the Sun: Chapter II [The Wizard of Time]*, Ace and Rocky split up in ancient Greece, where they're quickly branded as ill-omen messengers by a fearful oracle. Forced to flee the wrath of the locals, they track down Tiko’s stolen plane, crash-land it near a forgotten ruin, and hope their teammates—Prof and Red—will return in time with the time cube to set things right.
In the sands of Egypt, Prof and Red dismantle Tiko’s stolen telescope, rejoin Rocky and Ace, and plunge into the past—racing to the 15th century to find Nostradamus before Tiko does. But the seer has already vanished, and so has Tiko, leaving only whispers of a prophecy in the wind.
In "The Mechanical Judge: Chapter IV [The Wizard of Time]," the Challengers are thrust into the distant future of 3,000 AD, only to be arrested and brought before a cold, unfeeling machine that weighs their fates with mechanical precision. As the verdict is delivered, the machine sends them back—sealed in a single cube—leaving Tiko to face justice alone.
In "Target: Wonder Woman," the Duke of Deception, holed up in his Martian citadel, fixes his gaze on Wonder Woman through an interstellar viewfinder, poised to unleash his new VK-7 weapon the instant she takes flight in her robot plane.
In "The Secret of the Elephant's Tusk," a greedy man named Noonan preys on grieving families, demanding money to destroy a sacred elephant whose ivory has left victims paralyzed. When a shaman witnesses his betrayal, he places a deadly curse upon Noonan—dooming him to die by the very ivory he seeks to profit from.
