Metamorpho: Year One #1

DC's "Year One" initiative gets a compelling entry with this 2007 miniseries opener, retelling the early days of Rex Mason — the patchwork elemental hero better known as Metamorpho. Kevin Nowlan's cover sets the tone beautifully, placing the multicolored, bald-headed Metamorpho in dynamic mid-stride at center, a hammer-like fist raised, while a glamorous blonde woman dominates the foreground and a looming shadowed face watches from the background — with a fourth figure, a stocky man in the shadows, rounding out the intrigue. With Dan Jurgens writing and drawing and Jesse Delperdang on inks, "Treasure Quest, Part I of VI" promises a fresh, grounded look at one of DC's most visually distinctive characters.
