“Thanks for the Memories!”

Issue one of this 1993 four-issue DC miniseries kicks things off with a striking cover by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding — a determined man in a business suit (Doc Magnus himself, per the cover's own tagline) stands his ground amid a scene of rubble and chaos, flanked by looming, monstrous green and brown figures that tower over him on all sides. The cover copy — "Doc Magnus made them… only he can destroy them" — sets a tense, morally charged tone before you've even cracked the spine. With Mike Carlin writing and Jurgens on art throughout, this miniseries looks like a thoughtful revisit of one of DC's more inventive science-fiction concepts.
