“The Devil You Say!”

In "The Devil You Say!", Mephisto's sinister plan unfolds as he begins gathering souls, drawing the X-Men into a deadly game. With Mr. Fantastic's warning ringing true, Rogue takes desperate action—absorbing her teammates' powers to shield them, only to be ensnared by Mephisto's cunning, pulled into his realm with their souls in peril. Written by Al Milgrom and brought to life with dynamic art by John Buscema, this 1987 Marvel classic delivers a chilling confrontation where the line between protection and possession blurs. The cover, also by Buscema, captures the moment of dread with striking intensity.

Mr. Fantastic contacts the X-Men and tells them that Mephisto has been collecting souls. Mephisto confronts the X-Men and targets Rogue with his special attention. Thinking that she has power over the demon lord, Rogue touches all of the X-Men to absorb their powers and protect them from Mephisto. She finds it is a trap, however, as Mephisto takes her into his realm with the souls of her teammates in tow.
