When a telephone cable failure knocks out Merton's phone line, he sees the perfect setup for a prank on his friend Marcia—ordering a fancy diamond ring and a five-thousand-dollar mink coat to be charged to his father. But Marcia gets in on the action with her own phone call before the lines go dead, and what follows is a hilarious chain of mix-ups involving Merton's mother, Marcia's mother, and a fur shop that can't keep track of who's supposed to own what. By the time everyone involved realizes what's happened, the chaos has spiraled in ways nobody quite expected.

When Merton and his pal Calories decide girls are nothing but trouble—always getting in the way of bowling night and other important business—they don't count on a pair of visiting baby-sit cousins to teach them a lesson in chaos. After Marcia and Jo Ann volunteer to watch Sue and Sandra for the evening, what starts as a chance to escape quickly spirals into mayhem that neither the girls nor the boys could have predicted. By the time the dust settles, everyone involved learns that "beware of the girls" might mean something entirely different than expected.

When Merton and Marcia clash over what kind of school magazine to publish—humor versus fashion—they resort to sabotage and pranks to undermine each other's speeches. Their rivalry takes an unexpected turn when the vote ends in a tie, forcing them to become co-editors of a combined magazine, only to face a bigger problem when the faculty advisor tries to take control of their student publication.

Mike Weldon has a problem: in order to join the Grail Club, he has to convince at least one student that he's a girl—and he's got until six o'clock to pull it off. Dressed in his sister Patricia's clothing, Mike tries his best to fool his classmates, but his disguise keeps falling apart in the most embarrassing ways possible.
