Merton's picnic plans go awry when his father is elected, leading to a series of domestic complications as the family's phone rings constantly and Merton must manage his newfound responsibilities. When Merton tries to take his date Marcia out, his parents' busy schedules interfere; his father instructs him to take Marcia to the Tunnel of Love at the amusement park, but the evening is repeatedly interrupted by work emergencies. In a second story, Merton and his friends attempt to create a getaway car out of a car and wagon, only to have their plan foiled when they're spotted by adults, culminating in a chaotic chase sequence.

Merton gets a wild idea to sneak a tape recorder into the girls' locker room to eavesdrop on his classmates—but when his bumbling scheme goes sideways and he's forced to disguise himself to escape, the recorder accidentally picks up something far more damaging than he bargained for. What starts as a prank turns into a humbling lesson when Merton discovers exactly what the girls really think of him, and a last-minute mix-up makes sure the truth comes back to haunt him.

What a Pill!
6 pp · Humor, Teen

Merton and his friend Calories dream up a scheme to sell a mysterious pill to a major automotive company—one that supposedly lets cars run on plain water instead of gasoline. When they demonstrate their invention to an impressed executive, things go hilariously sideways, and the boys discover their miracle formula might not work quite the way they thought. A fun romp through teen ingenuity gone wonderfully wrong, "What a Pill!" shows what happens when enthusiasm outpaces actual know-how.
