The Monster Hunters face their most reptilian challenge yet in this November 1998 installment of Marvel Universe, with a cover by Bruce Timm that crackles with pulp-adventure energy. A determined blond hunter fires a blazing pistol at the center of the chaos, flanked by a sunglasses-wearing colleague lunging from above and a fierce woman in a leopard-print outfit brandishing a spear, while hulking Lizard-Men close in from every direction around a massive, roaring creature beneath their feet. Roger Stern, Jason Armstrong, and Mike Manley bring "Return to Midnight Mountain!" to life with the kind of wide-eyed monster-movie enthusiasm that made this short-lived series such a fun corner of the late-'90s Marvel lineup.
